💡
One Thing to Know Before You Start

Interviewers are not trying to trick you. They want to know three things: Can you do this job? Will you show up? Are you someone we want on our team? Your job is to give them real examples that answer those three questions. That's it.

The STAR Method

Most interview questions start with "Tell me about a time when..." STAR is your formula for answering these without rambling or going blank.

S
Situation
Set the scene. Where were you? What was going on? Keep it brief — one or two sentences.
T
Task
What was your responsibility in that situation? What were you supposed to do or fix?
A
Action
What did YOU do? Be specific. Use "I" not "we." This is the most important part.
R
Result
What happened because of your action? What did you learn? End on a positive.
Example Answer — Retail / Customer Service

[S] "At my last job at a grocery store, a customer came in upset because she'd been overcharged twice that week."

[T] "I was the only associate available, and I needed to resolve it quickly without involving my manager if possible."

[A] "I apologized right away, looked up her receipts in our system, confirmed the errors, and processed refunds on both. I also let her know about our price guarantee."

[R] "She left happy and actually came back the next week and asked for me by name. My manager used it as a training example for the team."

⚠️
The Three Most Common Mistakes
Saying "we" instead of "I"
They hired you, not your team. Tell them what YOU did specifically.
Going on too long
Aim for 90 seconds. Practice timing yourself out loud.
Ending without a result
Always land the plane. What happened in the end? What did you learn?

Tell me about yourself.
Keep it to 60 seconds. Talk about your work experience, what you're good at, and why you want this job.

Confidence Tips

Feeling nervous is normal. What you do with the nerves is what matters.

🧠
If you freeze up
Take a breath. Say "That's a great question, let me think for just a second." Interviewers are fine with a pause.
🗣️
If you ramble
Stop and summarize. "So basically, what happened was..." then land on your result. Practice with a timer — 90 seconds is the sweet spot.
If you don't understand the question
Ask them to clarify. "Could you say a bit more about what you're looking for?" is completely fine.
💬
If you don't have a perfect example
Use what you have. Volunteer work, personal experience, and school situations all count.
👁️
Body language basics
Eye contact, a firm handshake, sit up straight. Smile when you first walk in. These small things matter more than most people think.
📋
Before the interview
Read the job description again. Arrive 10 minutes early. Bring a copy of your resume. Dress one level above what the job requires.
